Overview:

The Beginner Handgun Course was created with the intention of providing students with a basic understanding of how to safely handle, operate and shoot a handgun. This class was designed with new and novice shooters in mind. The class is taught in a low stress, relaxed environment. The purpose is to promote a respect for firearms, as well as install comfort and confidence for new handgun owners and users. During this course the students will receive classroom lecture covering various topics pertaining to handgun ownership. Students will also have the opportunity to preform dry firing drills under the guidance of a certified instructor, giving them the chance to practice the skills learned prior to attempting them at the end of the class under live fire conditions. The live fire drills used during this course are design to reinforce all the topics covered during the lecture.

Topics Covered:

Students will learn basic firearms safety rules, safe storage and responsibility of gun ownership in the home. In addition they will discuss brief legal aspects of owning a handgun. Students will discuss the pros and cons of the different types of handguns. Also covered will be the nomenclature of both a pistol and a revolver. They will learn loading and unloading procedures for pistols and revolvers. Students will cover in detail both marksmanship and the fundamentals of shooting a handgun.

Student Requirements:

  • One serviceable handgun. (Handguns are available for rent)
  • Eye and Ear protection.
  • 50 rounds of new manufactured ammunition.

Tuition: $175.  This includes your range fee.  Successful completion of this class by demonstrating safe gun handling skills will earn you a $25 voucher for future classes with Defensive Shooting Concepts.
